Real Sociedad has on Monday announced
David Moyes as their new manager.
The former Manchester Unted boss, 51, has
returned to club management after his spell
with the Old Trafford club ended abruptly
within ten months.
Moyes replaces Jagoba Arrasate, who was
dismissed last weekend after guiding the
Basque team to just one win in their first ten
La Liga games.
“Real Sociedad have reached an agreement
with David Moyes to be the coach of the first
team until June 30, 2016,” the club said in a
statement.
“Tomorrow (Tuesday) the details for his
official presentation and the backroom staff
led by the Scottish coach will be finalised.”
Reports suggest Moyes, who will begin his
reign at the San Sebastian with a trip to
Deportivo La Coruna on November 22, has
signed a contract till June 2016.
The former Preston North End and Everton
manager was chosen as Sir Alex Ferguson’s
successor in his previous job at United, but
was shown the exit with the English club
lying seventh in the Premier League with four
matches left to the end of last season.
He faced Sociedad during his spell with
United, winning 1-0 in Manchester and
sealing a goalless draw in Spain in a
Champions League group phase.
He becomes the fourth British manager to
coach Sociedad, after Harry Lowe
(1930-1935), John Toshack (1999- 20002)
and current Wales boss Chris Coleman, who
had a six-month spell with the club.
Sociedad’s win over Atletico Madrid last
Sunday moved them out of relegation zone
up to 15th in the table. Their other win this
season came against Real Madrid.
