A 42-year-old woman, Mrs. Juliana Godwin, despite all
odds, has returned to school and is now a JSSI student of
Junior Secondary School, Gosa, Abuja.
Mrs. Godwin, is from Riyom Local Government Area of
Plateau State and had dropped out of school in 1983 due to
lack of funds. According to her,
“I had to leave for Jos in 1983, since my father could
no longer sponsor my education to secondary school
because he had no money. While I was with my
cousin, I enrolled in a tailoring shop to learn dress
making. I completed it within a year and  six months.
In 2003, I was able to save some money from water
hawking. I started pepper and tomato business with
N1,000 from the savings. I also went into corn
roasting business, but my husband stopped me from
the business in 2007,” she told Vanguard.
In 2008, she decided to go into vocational training with a
non-governmental organisation called Refocusing Nigerian
Talents Organisation, RENITO, where she was trained in
soap (liquid, medicated and bar), pomade and disinfectants
production.

“Now I can produce and sell the products I was
trained on, and I started with N1,500. I came to
realise that the business was lucrative and helpful to
me and my family. I decided to make savings towards
going back to school after I dropped out in 1983. My
husband was against my decision and quarrelled
seriously with me. But I didn’t give up on my decision.
In 2013, I went on to enrol at Junior Secondary
School, Gosa, Airport Road, Abuja, where I started in
JSS I F. I was able to raise N10, 000 to pay for
admission expenses."
“Why I decided to start from JSSI was because I had
never in my life stepped into the four walls of a
secondary school. I told myself I will start from JSS I,
as it will help me to have the foundation of secondary
school education and to understand what I would be
taught. My principal was surprised and asked me
whether I could cope with secondary school education
as an adult and a married woman. He and the staff
also encouraged me to continue since I had made up
my mind. But my husband continued making trouble
to stop me”.

“I am the oldest person in the class of 80 students. I
participate in every school activity, and I am happy
with that. Even when I come late to school, the
teachers do punish me just like other students, and I
have no problem with that, but I do behave myself as
an adult. I have seen great changes in my life, and I
am coping seriously. My aim is to study marketing in
the university after I would have completed my senior
secondary education”, she added.

Akpabio, Orji, Jang, others win PDP Senate tickets

LAGOS—THE nationwide senatorial primaries of the
Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) churned out a mixed grill
of shocking and expected results.
Senate President David Mark, who is vying for the Benue
South position for the fifth time, led a crop of incumbent
senators who were handed return tickets.
Others include Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu,
Senators Joshua Dariye, Enyinnaya Abaribe, James
Manager, Zaynab Kure, Smart Adeyemi and Emmanuel
Paulker.
However, Senate Leader, Victor Ndoma-Egba (SAN), who
aspired to return to the Senate for the fourth consecutive
time to represent Cross River Central, topped the list of
senators who were denied return tickets. In this category
are Senators Uche Chukwumerije (Abia), Nenadi Usman
(Kaduna South), Odion Ugbesia (Edo) and Margery Okadigbo
(Anambra North.)
On a day that multiple candidates emerged in Anambra,
Ondo and Bayelsa some serving governors were also given
the green light to try their political luck in the Senate. In this
list are Governors Godswill Akpabio (Akwa Ibom), Jonah
Jang (Plateau), Theodore Orji (Abia) and Muázu Babangida
Aliyu (Niger).
Fresh faces that were handed tickets include Bisola Sodipo-
Clark, wife of Ijaw Leader and Elder statesman, Chief Edwin
Kiagbodo Clark; serving House of Representatives member,
Uche Ekwunife; former Aviation Minister, Princess Stella
Oduah; Buruji Kashamu and Ben Murray-Bruce.
Benue South: Mark returns unopposed
Senate President Mark polled 384 votes to emerge winner of
the Benue South Senatorial primaries. His only challenger,
Chief Mike Onoja, withdrew from the race shortly before the
commencement of voting citing, “national interest and unity
of the Idoma nation” as part of his reasons.
In his acceptance speech, Senator Mark praised Onoja for
stepping down even as he dedicated the mandate to Idoma
people.
He said he was humbled by the overwhelming endorsement
by his constituents and pledged that, “whatever makes for
the peace, unity and overall development of Idoma nation
would be my guiding principle.”
Dariye wins in Plateau Central
Former Governor of Plateau State and incumbent Senator
representing Plateau Central Senatorial zone, Joshua Dariye
was chosen as the PDP candidate of the zone.
Dariye, who got the ticket for his first tenure on the platform
of the Labour Party sought to return to the PDP to recontest
the seat but was initially rebuffed by the state chapter of
the party even when the National Secretariat of the Party
gave him a waiver.
He defeated Nde Alexander Molwus, incumbent House of
Representatives member representing Pankshin/Kanke/
Kanam, Emmanuel Go’ar.
Multiple candidates elected in Anambra
The perennial problem of multiple candidacy, which has hurt
the PDP in Anambra State played out again, yesterday.
While Uche Ekwunife (Anambra Central), Andy Uba
(Anambra South) and Stella Oduah (Anambra North),
emerged as candidates, another primary also held in Awka
returned Senator Annie Okonkwo as the candidate for
Anambra Central.
Mrs. Uche Ekwunife representing Anaocha/Njikoka/
Dunukofia federal constituency in the House of
Representatives in one of the primaries scored 237 votes,
beating Senator Annie Okonkwo (57 votes), Obiora Okonkwo
(one vote), Chief Osita Ezenwa(12 votes), Chief Kodili
Okelekwe (26 votes) and Chief Sylvester Okonkwo (three
votes).
Ekwunife was declared winner by the returning officer, Mr.
Ifeanyi David after the primary election held at the Alex
Ekwueme square, Awka.
However, Senator Annie Okonkwo, yesterday, emerged as
the candidate in the exercise conducted by the Ejike
Oguebego-led state executive of the PDP. He scored 282
votes to Ekwunife’s 14. Chief Sylvester Okonkwo got 7
votes, Chief Obiora Okonkwo had four while Mrs. Christy
Okorie got 11 votes.
The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, had
in a statement recently, recognized Ejike Oguebego as the
state chairman of PDP.
In Anambra North, former aviation minister, Princess Stella
Oduah picked the ticket by defeating the incumbent senator,
Mrs. Margery Okadigbo, while Senator Andy Uba emerged
winner in Anambra South senatorial zone.
Oforma, Azubogu, Ohanezi declare themselves Reps
candidates in Nnewi
In like manner, three contestants for the House of
Representatives for Nnewi North/Nnewi South/Ekwusigo
federal constituency of Anambra State, yesterday, declared
themselves winners in parallel primaries they conducted at
three venues in the industrial town of Nnewi.
For the exercise that took place at Nnewi Youth League hall,
Mr. Julius Oforma was announced winner with 121 votes.
At another exercise later at Anaedo Social Club, Nnewi, the
incumbent member of the House of Representatives for the
area, Chief Chris Azubougu was declared winner with 105
votes out of the total 123 votes cast, while at Kings Palace
Hotel, Nnewi, the third aspirant, Dr. Harry Ohanezi was
declared winner.
In all the three venues, no election materials were used and
it was unclear who authorized those who described
themselves as the returning officers to conduct the
exercises.
Senate Leader, Ndoma-Egba loses re-election, vows to
appeal
Senate Leader, Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba lost the bid for
re-election to the Senate on the platform of the PDP for the
fourth time as John Owan Enoh defeated him in the
senatorial primary for Cross River Central Senatorial
District.
But the Senate Leader has rejected the outcome of the
exercise and vowed to appeal it.
In the tensed contest surrounded by intrigues, Senator
Ndoma-Egba got 37 votes against Enoh’s 217. Enoh who is
serving his third tenure in the House of Representatives is
Chairman, House Committee on Appropriation.
How Chukwumerije lost in Abia
In Abia, Governor Theodore Orji won the party’s ticket for
Abia Central unopposed. He scored a total of 221 votes to
be declared the winner by the returning officer, Chief Ndidi
Okereke.
The election which was monitored by INEC officials was
held at the Umuahia Township Stadium amid tight security
provided by the Abia police Command whose commissioner,
Adamu Ibrahim was physically present to supervise his
officers and men.
Senator Nkechi Nwaogu, who was screened and cleared to
contest the election with Governor Orji, boycotted the
exercise, citing lack of confidence in the processes leading
to the primaries as her reason. She had alleged that the
whole exercise was manipulated and skewed towards some
preferred aspirants in the state.
In Abia North, it was a big upset for Senator Uche
Chukwumerije who was roundly defeated by a former
member of the House of Representatives, Mr. Mao
Ohuabunwa. He polled 103 votes against Chukwumerije’s
21 votes. Chief David Ogba Onuoha came second with 67
votes.
In Abia South, the incumbent, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe
won with 169 votes. He defeated his only rival, Comrade
Princewill Onyekachi Ojeh who got only two votes.
In his acceptance speech, Governor Orji commended the
way the exercise was conducted, saying that it “enhanced
democracy.”
It’s Jang on the Plateau
Governor Jonah Jang
became one of the
serving governors to be
given a senatorial ticket.
He got 273 votes to
emerge as the PDP
Senatorial candidate for
Plateau North Senatorial
zone. He defeated former
Ambassador to Ukraine,
Ibrahim Kasai who
scored 18 votes. 291
delegates participated in
the exercise.
All other federal
constituencies where the
exercise took place
recorded success as Governor Jang’s candidates emerged
winners.
Among those who won the House of Representatives
primary elections are the immediate past Attorney General
and Commissioner for Justice, Barrister Edward Pwajok,
who emerged winner for Jos South/Jos East Federal
Constituency; the immediate past Commissioner for Works,
Chris Hassan (Jos North/Bassa Federal Constituency) and
Istifanus Gyang (Barkin Ladi/Riyom Federal Constituency.)
Others are Engr. Solomon Maren (Mangu/Bokkos Federal
Constituency), Timothy Golu (Pankshin, Kanke and Kanam
Federal Constituency), Beni Lar (who retained her position
to represent Langtang North/Langtang South Federal
Constituency) and  Johnbull Shekarau (Mikang/Qua’an Pan
Federal Constituency.)
Bayelsa: Murray-Bruce, Paulker win
Chairman, Senate Committee on Oil and Gas, Downstream
sector, Senator Emmanuel Paulker and former Director
General, Nigerian Television Authority, (NTA), Mr. Ben
Murray Bruce emerged as PDP candidates representing
Bayelsa Central and East Senatorial districts respectively.
In the  Bayelsa Central Senatorial District, Senator
Emmanuel Paulker polled 174 votes. His closest rival, Austin
Ogionwon Febo scored 17 votes while Ebiundu Komonibo
scored one vote and Torunana also had one vote.
In Bayelsa East Senatorial District Mr. Ben Murray-Bruce
polled 138 votes beating Mr. Anthony Ikoli, SAN, (11 votes),
Nelson Belief (two votes), Mrs Irene Digitemie Opuene (four
votes).  Austin Dressman and Professor Ayebaemi Spiff
withdrew from the race.
…Mild drama as Lokpobiri also emerges in parallel exercise
However, there was a mild drama in Bayelsa West
senatorial district as parallel primaries were held leading to
the emergence of former chairman of the state scholarship
board, Evang. Fister Ogola and the incumbent Senator,
Heineken Lokpobiri as candidates.
The primary which returned Foster Ogola was held at the
State College of Education hall in Sagbama and had in
attendance the state Governor, Seriake Dickson; former
state Deputy Governor, Peremobowei Ebebi. The aspirants
were Evang Foster Ogolo and Ayakeme Whiskey, Dr. Stella
Dorgu, Frank Akpoebi and Capt. Matthew Karimu.
The primary that returned Senator Heineken Lokpobiri was
held at the Sagbama Community Primary School 2 and was
attended by PDP faithful including former commissioners
and incumbent member representing Sagbama constituency
III of the State House of Assembly, Ebamugha Empere.
At the State College of Education venue of the primary
election where the state governor participated, Foster Ogola
was returned as winner with 69 votes out of the 113 votes
cast.
The dramatic entry of Senator Heineken Lokpobiri to the
venue as the returning officer Offorji Oboku was about to
announce the result caused a stir as some delegates
hurriedly left the hall.
Senator Lokpobiri, who had earlier been declared absent
during accreditation confronted the returning officer and
demanded to know what he was doing.
He later walked out of the venue and returned to the venue
of the parallel primaries that returned him.
Dickson maintained a studied silence during the ensuing
drama as he was shielded by his security aides to prevent
any ugly incident.
Dickson, while commenting on the outcome of the election,
urged members of the PDP family to work together to
ensure the emergence of credible representatives that would
give effective support to the re-election bid of President
Goodluck Jonathan.
Ekweremadu returned in Enugu
Following the withdrawal of Governor Sullivan Chime,
Deputy Senate Ekweremadu vied for the for Enugu West
Senatorial zone PDP ticket unopposed and was returned
with 294 valid votes cast by delegates from all the five local
government areas in the zone.
Parallel primaries in Ondo produce Olajumoke, others
A member of the PDP BOT, Dr Bode Olajumoke yesterday
won the primaries to represent Ondo North senatorial zone
in the National Assembly.
Dr Olajumoke was in the senate between 2007/2011.
Although parallel primaries were held in the three areas, but
INEC and representatives of the national secretariat of the
party only attended the primaries organised by the new
PDP.
The incumbent senator representing Ondo central, Senator
Ayo Akinyelure was the only one returned of the three
senators that were elected on the platform of Labour Party
in 2011.
A former Commissioner for Work Yele Omogunla was
elected to represent Ondo South senatorial district.
Speaking with Vanguard, Dr Olajumoke said he would
continue from where he stopped in 2011 and promised to
bring dividends of democracy to the people of the area.
Akwa Ibom picks Akpabio, Albert, Effiong
Governor Godswill Akpabio of Akwa-Ibom State, yesterday,
emerged the unopposed Senatorial candidate of the PDP for
Ikot Ekpene zone. The incumbent, Senator Aloysius Etuk had
earlier stepped down for him as a result of  numerous
consultations held with major stakeholders in Ini and Ikono
Federal Constituency.
In Uyo Senatorial District, former governorship aspirant,
Obong Bassey Albert also slammed the incumbent, Senator
Ita Enang to clinch the ticket just as Nelson Effiong, former
Speaker of the Akwa-Ibom State House of Assembly had the
upper hand in Eket Senatorial District.
Delta North Senatorial primary postponed, as Amori,
Manager emerge in Central, South
The political atmosphere in the Delta North Senatorial
District, yesterday thickened following the unexpected
postponement of the PDP senatorial primary in the district
to Tuesday (tomorrow) because of what sources attributed
to logistics problem.
At the Delta South Senatorial District, incumbent Senator,
Senator James Manager clinched the ticket with 291 as
against the 13 votes scored by Air Vice Marshall Terry
Okorodudu (rtd), the only other contender in the senatorial
primary held at the Warri Township stadium.
Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan who withdrew from the race
for the Delta South ticket a couple of days to the primary
was present to cast his vote as a delegate and left almost
immediately.

Surgeon removes wrong kidney from patient

A California surgeon who removed the wrong kidney from a
federal inmate was placed on probation by the state medical
board.
The California Medical Board ruled Dr. Charles Coonan
Streit, a urologist who has had a license to practice for 41
years, committed "an extreme departure from the standard
of care" when he relied on his memory and removed a
healthy kidney from the 59-year-old federal inmate at St.
Jude Medical Center in Fullerton in 2012.
The board said the error put the patient's "future renal
function in jeopardy" and forced him to undergo a second
surgery to remove the cancer-stricken kidney.
The hospital was fined $100,000 by the state Department of
Health after an investigation found CT scans showing the
affected the kidney had been left in the office of a surgical
team doctor on the day of the surgery.
Streit was placed on probation for three years and ordered
to enroll in a wrong-site surgery class at the University of
California-San Diego School of Medicine within 60 days. He
was also banned from supervising physician assistants for
the duration of his probation.
A 2006 study in the Journal of the American Medical
Association suggested wrong-site surgeries are rare,
occurring an estimated once every five to 10 years at large
hospitals.
A Texas man filed a lawsuit in June accusing a urologist
and a radiologist of malpractice and gross negligence when
his healthy kidney was removed and a cancerous kidney
was left inside his body as a result of a CT scan being
misread.
New York's Mount Sinai Medical Center admitted last year
surgeons removed the wrong kidney from a 77-year-old
patient who was suffering issues with both kidneys.

Maid locks out 2 kids at night for not finding remote control

Police were called when two young children were found
sitting on the street, close to midnight.
Police arrested a married couple in Salisbury, Maryland, on
charges of endangerment for allegedly kicking out the two
children, who were left in their care.
Leslie Parks, 42, and Leonard Joseph Parks, 62, were
arrested after officers found a 9-year-old boy and a 12-
year-old girl sitting outside a convenience store around
11:15 p.m.
The children said that the couple who was babysitting them,
forced them out of the home after they were ordered to find
the couple’s TV remote.
The children were given 15 minutes to find the remote, but
when they failed to find it they were pushed out of the
couple's home.
Police said that the family is homeless. Their mother, who
does not have a cell phone, left the children with the couple
while she went to look for a place to spend the night.
The children who were hungry, told police that they had been
sitting outside for about two hours. The children were fed
and Social Services were contacted.
Leslie Parks was charged with two counts of neglecting a
minor and two counts of contributing to the condition of a
child.

They were booked into the Wicomico County Detention
Center, and were later released after posting $30,000 bond.

In China, Man Sues His Wife For Giving Birth To Ugly Baby

A Chinese man divorced and then sued his ex-
wife for giving birth to what he called an
extremely ugly baby girl.
Initially, Jian Feng accused his wife of infidelity,
because he was so sure that he could never be
the father of such an ugly child.
When a DNA test proved that the baby was his,
Feng’s wife came clean on a little secret —
before they met, she had undergone about
$100,000 worth of cosmetic surgery in South
Korea.
Feng filed for divorce and sued his wife on the
grounds of false pretenses, for not telling him
about the plastic surgery and duping him into
thinking she was beautiful. The kicker? He won.
A judge agreed with Feng’s argument and
ordered his ex-wife to pay him $120,000.
“I married my wife out of love, but as soon as
we had our first daughter, we began having
marital issues,” he said in an interview. “Our
daughter was incredibly ugly, to the point
where it horrified me.”

Horny Woman Calls 911 And Asks Officer For Sex

A Florida woman called police and then came
onto the responding officer, asking him for sex.
Maria Montanez-Colon, 58, was arrested for
abusing the 911 system when she called police
with a bogus story, and when an officer arrived
she tried to have sex with him.
The woman told police that she gave her late
husband’s convertible to his son while she was
drunk, and that she wants the car back. When
officer Justin Davoult of the Punta Gorda Police
Department arrived at the house, Montanez-
Colon allegedly fondled him.
She then asked the officer if he was married and
allegedly proceeded to rub the officer’s chest.
The woman then told Davoult that he was sexy
and that she wanted to have sex with him
because she didn’t have sex in years.
However the officer wanted no part of it and
left. Montanez-Colon then called 911 again and
asked for another officer.
When the dispatcher asked why she wanted
another officer, she explained that the officer
turned her down and that made her angry.
Officers responded to Montanez-Colon’s home,
but this time, they arrested her for misuse of
911.
She was and booked into the Charlotte County
Jail. Officers said that Montanez-Colon was
intoxicated at the time of the incident.

House help abducts two young boys from their home in Lagos(photos)

A two and half year old Rafael and 15months old Michael (both
pictured below) were abducted from their home in Isheri
Magodo Estate, Lagos last night by their maid. The
children's parents left the kids in the care of the maid, their
sick grandmum and her nurse and went out briefly
yesterday. By the time they returned home, the maid and
the kids were no where to be found. The maid took them
away after the grandma and her nurse had gone to bed.
All efforts to reach the maid by phone has proved abortive.
And the agency that brought the maid also can't reach her.

Passengers May Suffer Flight Delays, Flight Cancellation During Festive Period – NCAA

Hard times are here for air travelers as the Nigerian
Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) alerted of imminent
flight delays or outright cancellations between now and
March next year.
According to the NCAA, the development is due to
harsh weather associated with harmattan. The body
had recently issued a weather alert to all pilots of
hazards associated with harmattan dust haze in flight
operations at this period of the year.
The regulatory body noted that the warning was
important because of the obvious threat harmattan
posed to aircraft, particularly in areas of challenging
terrains due to low visibility. NCAA added that the alert
was in line with the seasonal rain prediction issued by
the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NIMET) on the
cessation of rainy season in 2014.
“The Harmattan is a dry and dusty wind that blows
southwards from the Sahara across the country
between the end of November to March, the following
year,” a statement by the General Manager, Public
Affairs in the NCAA, Fan Ndubuoke said.
“On its passage over the desert, it picks up large
amount of fine dust particles (0.5 to 10 micrometers)
which are transported hundreds of kilometres over the
south. The effect of the dust and sand stirred by the
wind is known as Harmattan Dust Haze. In addition, the
consequence of the harmattan is a heavy fog hence air
– to – ground visibility is considerably reduced.
“Aerodrome visibility may fall below the prescribed
minima and in severe conditions; dust haze can blot out
runways, the markers and airfield lightings over wide
areas. This makes visual navigation extremely difficult
or impossible.
“Resultantly, where visibility falls below the prescribed
weather minima, flight operations are likely to be
delayed, diverted or outrightly cancelled.
“Therefore, all Pilots shall obtain adequate departure,
en route and destination weather information and
briefing from NIMET prior to flight operations at all the
airports. Pilots are similarly advised to exercise
maximum restraint when strong surface wind, fog or
harmattan haze is observed or forecast. All concerned
are required to ensure compliance with this circular,”
the statement read.

several leadership positions. “I have been a local
government chairman, deputy governor and governor in
this state, so Alao-Akala knows his worth.”
“No tension, do not panic, by the special grace of God,
he has given us the next government in Oyo State.
Though the path to that land seems rough, God himself
will clear and show us the road to the promise land,” he
prayed, adding that “before the end of the week, we’ll
know the next line of action.”
He also assured his supporters that he remained a
member of the PDP, although there are offers from
some opposition parties.
“Yes, it’s true that some leaders of the opposition
parties have been dangling offers before us, but I want
to state here that none of them have been accepted,” he

My relationship with Fashola is intact - Bola Tinubu writes

Below is a press statement from the office of former Lagos
state governor, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu...
For a while now, I have noticed and read many
published political stories on Lagos politics in
particular and the personalities involved that are either
concerted, unsubstantiated, pure conjectures or
outright falsehood. In this instance, I reference a
recent story ran by a major newspaper concerning my
successor and me. There is no doubt political
charlatans and enemies are at work fueling
unnecessary rumour and insinuations and seeking to
drive a wedge in an otherwise cordial and respectful
political relationship. My relationship with Governor
Fashola remains cordial both at the personal level and
at the level of commitment to ensuring Lagos State
remains on the path of political stability, growth and
development.
Whether Governor Fashola had a specific candidate or not
isn’t the issue here. What is important is to have a
transparent process in the spirit of democracy to which we
both subscribe.  We often debate, agree or disagree. But
when it comes to concluding on the interest of Lagos State,
we are on the same page. The current situation and issues
around the Lagos Gubernatorial primary are being
overblown. What we have done is ensure that no one is
denied his or her rights to participate and compete for any
elective position. Such a disposition should not translate
into anger and divisiveness of the party as it is being
peddled. Conflicts and disagreements is part of every
political process. The capacity to solve these conflicts in-
house and not on the pages of newspaper is a tradition in
Lagos.
We warn the people of Lagos state against speculative, self-
serving stories aimed at destabilizing the party and its
leadership. The media must be weary of accepting or
publishing stories that seek to pursue a narrow political
agenda. Rather, they should make their paper a platform for
proper news dissemination and constructive analysis such
that can help our country tackle the current security
problem, create jobs.
While we appreciate, recognize and respect the right of
every media house to publish any story, it is important not
to be part of the feeding frenzy and not to mislead the
unsuspecting public.
At my age and with my level of political experience, I am
expected to seek for solutions, work for reconciliations and
find a common ground where disagreements exist. That is
what I have dedicated myself to in the larger interest of
Lagos State and Nigeria at large. That is what Governor
Babatunde Fashola and myself are about. That is what
Lagos state deserves as Nigeria’s pacesetter in terms of
democracy and development.

2014. Sharon, whose stage name is Carissa,’ dropped her
debut single, ‘I’m Excellent’ featuring Ice Stanley on March
30, 2014.
Her younger sister, Charlene is just 19 and both girls
currently reside in the UK with their mum.

Lagos Deputy Gov. Drops Senatorial Ambition

The Lagos state Deputy Governor, Adejoke Orelope-
Adefulire, has announced she no longer intends to run
for the ticket of the Lagos West Senatorial district on
the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
According to Orelope-Adefulire, her decision was in the
best interest of the party and the need to strengthen its
unity.
A party source told Guardian that the deputy governor
had been on a “wild goose chase” all the while, as the
party hierarchy was not favourably disposed to her
ambition, this the source said has been revealed to her.
“The reality of Thursday’s governorship primary must
have woken her from any illusion. She knew the stakes
at Lagos West, which included the most populated
Local Government in the country (Alimosho) are indeed
very high, but she was hoping on her closeness with
the party leadership,” the source said.
Orelope-Adefulire however said in a statement that her
decision was hard to make, “but one that I made in the
overall interest of my party and for the benefit of our
growing internal democracy. I wish to thank the party,
our apex leaders and our loyal, dedicated members in
the state particularly members of Lagos West Senatorial
District for the support shown through their wise
counsels, best wishes and words of encouragement
during visits on political mission.”
