In simplest terms, cancer represents an accelerating
process of inappropriate, uncontrolled cell growth – a
chaotic process within the order of biology. When
examined under a microscope, cancer cells are
abnormally shaped, inconsistently formed, and
disorganized and contain abnormal internal structures,
which is the essence of biological disorder.
Cancer, despite the fear it creates in people, is a natural
phenomenon that represents the body’s response to a
continuous attack on its balancing and regulatory
mechanisms by numerous factors.
Every cell in the body has the ability to turn cancerous,
and many do so on a daily basis. Normally, the immune
system is able to protect the body by destroying these
cells or reprogramming them back to normal
functioning. However, if the body’s defense systems
have been damaged, this process cannot happen, which
allows cancer to establish itself.
This is why building a rock solid immune system is
your foundational objective when tackling and evading
cancer.
Things that can facilitate cancer growth
So when you begin to understand that cancer is largely
an immune system issue, then your next steps is to do
everything in your power to eliminate those things in our
life that suppress or destroy it. The things you need to
avoid include:
– X-rays
– Excess sunlight ultraviolet rays
– Chronic EMF exposure
– Close proximity to overhead power lines
– Nuclear radiation
– Pesticides and herbicides
– Industrial toxins
– Drinking or bathing in polluted, chlorinated, or
fluoridated water
– Smoking
– Hormonal therapies
– Immune suppressive drugs
– Consuming irradiated foods and food additives
– Mercury toxicity (like dental fillings, root canals,
cavitation’s, and contaminated seafood)
– Use of street, prescription and non-prescription drugs
– Nutritional deficiencies
– Consumption of synthetic ‘foods’
– Chronic stress
– Negative emotions
– Depressed thyroid function
– Intestinal toxicity
– Parasites
– Viral, bacterial, and fungal infections (Candida)
– Blocked detoxification pathways
– Genetic predisposition
– Physical irritants (e.g. asbestos)
– Alcohol consumption
– GMO’s
Review of this list may cause despair due to the fact
that these things seem so ingrained into our daily
lifestyle and impossible to avoid. However, the goal is
not perfection but progression towards eliminating
these factors, if you wish to greatly increase your odds
of eliminating and avoiding cancer.
Things that can retard and eliminate cancer growth
In contrast, the things that can help stave off and
reverse cancer growth are associated with creating a
strong and well-balanced immune system. There are
several factors to consider, but high on the list is clean,
whole, and nutritious food full of antioxidants, as well
as a positive mental attitude. Things to consider within
those two factors that you should do on a consistent
basis include:
– Garlic
– Onion
– Turmeric
– Hemp
– Sea vegetables
– Algae
– Aloe vera
– Cruciferous vegetables
– Dark, leafy greens
– Medicinal mushrooms (such as reishi and chaga)
– Cat’s Claw
– Graviola
– Pau D’Arco
– Yoga
– Meditation
– Nature walks
– Laughing
A focus on vegetables and fruits (low in sugar), pure
water, adequate vitamin D intake, clean air, and
earthing are also to be strongly considered.
One may also consider other methods that have shown
promise such as cannabis oil, oxygen therapy, the
Gerson Therapy, and the “antineoplastons” treatment
developed by Dr. Stanislaw Burzynski.
In addition to these approaches, it is also important to
take a proactive approach for cancer screening that
doesn’t necessarily involve medical intervention (see
first source below for 8 ways to do it), so you can
recognize and take quicker action, if required.
However, if you follow these recommendations to a tee,
you have done nearly everything possible to crush any
chance of cancer developing or recurring in 2015.
Remember, eliminating or avoiding cancer requires a
lifestyle change, not a band-aid.
To begin, focus on eliminating as many as the factors
that facilitate cancer as you can, and direct your
attention to daily consumption of the Top 8 Foods and
Herbs For Healing Cancer.

Africa’s Most Successful Women introduces you to the
most outstanding African women who are making giant
strides in business, politics, technology, entrepreneurship
and leadership on the continent and elsewhere around the
world. Article below written by Mfonobong Nsehe for Forbes
Mo Abudu, a 50 year-old Nigerian media entrepreneur
and talk show host, is the founder of Ebony Life TV , a
fast-growing black African multi-broadcast
entertainment network, which showcases informative
and entertaining programmes that portray Africa at its
best. Abudu, who has been described by international
news outlets as ‘Africa’s Africa’, is keen in her resolve
to rewrite Africa’s story. And it’s time you took notice.
In a recent email interview, she recounts her
entrepreneurial journey and reflects on the lessons
she has learned along the way.
You are the host of ‘Moments with Mo’, one of the most
successful syndicated talk shows on African regional
television. And now you run an African television network.
Walk me through your journey as a media entrepreneur
My passion to help change the narrative about Africa began
to grow as far back as when I was a teenager living in the
UK, schooling in Tunbridge Wells in Kent, a town that had
just a few blacks at the time. As I have said many times in
the past, here, I had to learn to stand up for myself, to
defend my identity and my race in an environment where
you continually got asked the most ridiculous and mind-
boggling questions like “Do you guys live in trees and holes
in Africa?” “Do you guys dance around fires?” “What do you
eat for breakfast?” Very ignorant questions. Those sort of
questions could either make or break your spirit but I was
very determined that I was going to stay strong. This kind of
afro-pessimism simply fuelled a burning, deep-seated
desire in my subconscious to one day help to rewrite the
African story; to get people to talk about the issues that
affect our society and to tell the African narrative in a
contemporary and interesting way; to change the perception
the world had of us; to let the world know that in spite of our
challenges as a developing continent, Africans are not a
bunch of savages but mostly a breed of gifted and
remarkable people. So, after my education and a flourishing
modelling career in the UK, I returned to Nigeria in my late
twenties. My children had reached their teens; I had begun
enjoying a successful career as Head of Human Resources
and Administration for oil giant, Esso Exploration and
Production Nigeria Limited (ExxonMobil). I always say that
this experience at ExxonMobil was the best thing that
happened to me at that time because the job gave me an
invaluable understanding of corporate structure and
business discipline, which would eventually prove very
useful in my future business endeavours, to include the
Protea Hotel Oakwood Park, of which I remain a
shareholder and director; Vic Lawrence & Associates, now
one of Nigeria’s leading outsourcing firms, where I also
remain founder, and so on. However, as successful as all
these business ventures have thankfully been, nothing
perhaps has given me the most fulfilment as the prospect
of exploiting the media as a tool to affect global perceptions
about Africa. So, with no TV experience whatsoever, I had
approached DStv back then with the Moments with Mo
proposal which I had hoped would persuade them to see
that it was time Africans had a talk show that projected all
that was positive, progressive and celebratory about the
continent. I had seen a gap in the market for talk shows
that were quintessentially African on the DStv bouquet. I
had observed that there were talk shows on NTA, and other
Nigerian channels but there wasn’t a single Pan-African talk
show at the time. I did not get a positive response from
DStv as I was told they were not looking for a Pan-African
talk show on the platform at the time. But interestingly, in
response to the need for local content on the platform, the
window of opportunity soonopened for us and that was
how, in 2006, Moments with Mo was born out of the vision
to build and project a new, stronger, more independent and
more confident Africa; an Africa that speaks for itself; that
celebrates its people and achievements and solves its own
problems.Ihad taken about 5 pilots of my talk show to them
back then but they were all rejected and eventually, one was
accepted. And even at that point, I was told they were not
going to commission, that they were only going to license,
which means they would buy the content from you at an
agreed price. So I was told to go and look for sponsors,
which I did, and the rest, as they say, is history.

Why did you choose to then start EbonyLife TV, Africa’s
first global black entertainment network, and describe the
transition from talk show host to head of a television
company, navigating a teething media business sector with
no prior experience?
The irony was that as far back as 2006 when I first
approached DStv with the proposition that Africa was ripe
for its own Oprah Winfrey or Ellen DeGeneres show, I was
at the same time already requesting for a global TV channel
opportunity. At the same time I was exploring channel
possibilities with SKY in the UK. I have always reckoned
that the vision to project Africa in a different, more positive
light, needed a big platform and this was what spurred me
to start thinking of establishing EbonyLifeTV. Looking back
now and considering how ambitious the dream was and all
we had to surmount to arrive at where we are now, one has
to admit that God’s appointed time is always the best. I
think, for the media however, the sector may have been run
by people who are very passionate about the sector rather
than people who are business managers, suffice to say it is
crucially important to understand the business of the media.
You have to be very passionate about what you do and at
the same time, be a business manager, which includes
having a solid business plan.I don’t think the financial
sector in Nigeria understands our sector, I can tell you this
because we spent a long time at strategy sessions with
expatriate financial consultants who really understood
media businessto help identify what the revenue streams in
TV are because in every business, there has to be a way to
make money. It’s not just about the passion to sell Africa’s
story, if you want it to generate money, there’s got to be
something bankable in it. Sometimes, you may not have all
the expertise required to make what you dream of in terms
of profitability, you then have to find someone that is
business savvy enough to show you how this business
works. He will also tell you how long it is going to take for
you to break even, especially if the business is media.
Media is one of those businesses that take off very slowly,
so you know that borrowing money at a high interest rate to
run the media business is not the way to go. Gaining this
understanding was key in getting EbonyLife TV off the
ground and running till today.

How would you describe EbonyLife TV and the kind of
programming it provides?
EbonyLife TV creates content that speaks to the continent’s
most important demographic, the custodians of the present
and of the future, the youth aged 18 to 34. We believe no
one is speaking to this key demographic of the continent
the way we do. This is a demographic that is extremely
passionate and confident; tremendously creative and global-
minded. It is one that craves a platform for self-definition
and self-expression; one that sees a different Africa, an
Africa that tells its own story through the showcasing of the
continent’s best talents, from lifestyle and entertainment to
fashion and music, education, information, love and
relationships. So, with the mantra “Live the EbonyLife”, our
channel is proud to be broadcasting premium, original and
exclusively African programming which is both inspirational
and aspirational, celebrating style and success while
motivating the audience to dream and dream big. Our
programming is one that leaves the viewer with a cool,
glossy, polished and sophisticated experience, from reality
to talk; drama to entertainment and comedy. Through our
programming, we also avail companies amazing brand
integration and placement opportunities like never before.
We believe it is very vital to give African brands, big and
small, the opportunity to be seen on a global scale, showing
the world that African brands can compete with the world’s
best.

What lessons have you learned in business?
I have learned that information is power. The media
business in Nigeria and indeed, Africa is grossly
underestimated and the windows of opportunity need to be
further explored. A lot of people do not understand the
power of the information. One needs to be armed with
information in order to successfully navigate any venture.
Information is your compass. If you know better, you will
do better. Before deciding to enter into any venture, one
must, to the best of their ability have explored possibilities
for growth, foreseen challenges, made projections, thought
exhaustively through every inch and breadth of the venture
and researched what other people have done to succeed
and where they failed.
What advice do you have for those who desire to follow
your entrepreneurial footsteps?
Anyone who wishes to be an entrepreneur must know that
bright ideas are great, however, they are not even half of
the work; execution is everything. Yes, as the saying goes,
‘there is nothing more powerful than an idea whose time
has come’, but when that time comes, you must be
prepared to bleed sweat, tears and blood to bring your ideas
to life. For women, never ever see your gender as a
handicap. Never think yourself inferior. Be ready to do
twice the work for half the usual reward. When the door
isn’t opened, kick down the door. Take the regular
harassment and other obstacles women face in stride. In
fact, be prepared for them. Be prepared to be told off, to be
told you are not good enough, to go unrewarded for even
doing the same work your male counterpart has done. Work
with your passion, let it consume and drive you. Do not be
distracted. On down days, it will keep you going. Also,
surround yourself with like minds. In fact, you should
exhaustively curate those who will go along with you on
your journey. I can’t say that enough.

Having a successful relationship starts with knowing
who you are completely. You can’t fully love someone,
if you are still questioning who you are, or what you
could possibly bring to the table. 2014 was a year of
learning and transition for many people, and if you are
ready to step into 2015 with a roadmap for love, we
wish you much success. We’d like to share 7 Guiding
Principles for Having Amazing Relationships in 2015:
1. Know who you are
Get to know yourself, get God’s view of yourself and
live by that, says Tatianah Green in Singles: How are
You “Actively Waiting” for Marriage?
When you make the decision to be single and actively
wait for God’s plan to unfold, you’re excited to pursue
His plan for your life and not deciding to worry about
marriage.
2. Be open to change with the time comes
You wondered when would you become involved in a
relationship? You have imagined it, dreamed about it
(and even prayed about it) and now the time is here! In
5 Steps for Transitioning from Being Single into a
Relationship, Michelle Cameron ask what are some
ways where your life must adjust to accommodate the
growing relationship?
You may have been single for a long time and have
gotten used to a routine where you are doing the things
you need to do or want to do on your own schedule
without a thought.
3. Know When to Walk Away
Sometimes we stay to long. “But I love him!” I hear
many women say. Unfortunately, love isn’t a good
enough reason to stay in a relationship says Aesha
Roberts in, 3 Signs that You Should Call it Quits in a
Relationship.
“Every second you spend with the wrong one is a
second you’re not with “The One.”
4. We Are All Works in Progress
Writer, Tatianah Green, shares in 10 Things to get
‘Delivert’ from by 2015, we have God’s grace to cover
our mistakes and she prays that we all get the wisdom
to not make them again. With that being said, it’s time
to start declaring with your powerful words, what you
will and will not do in 2015 as a single.
No excuses for not enjoying life before you get
married. “Oh I’ll wait to go to Paris ‘til I get married,” no
—time to plan that trip in your single season! In this
season of waiting, you should also be working and
preparing.
5. Don’t Rush to the Alter
I have known of many singles over the years who
rushed to get married, says Michelle Cameron in 8
Reasons Why Singles Rush to the Altar and 3 Ways to
Make It Last. For some, it worked out well and they
have been together for many years, but for many,
rushing to marry was a disaster waiting to happen.
Surround yourselves with mentors and advisers who
can caution you if you are about to make a serious
mistake by getting married quickly. Marriage is
intended to last forever. Do all you can before
exchanging vows to lay a strong foundation for a
healthy marriage.
6. Know Where You Stand in a Relationship
In Why You Should Talk about the Relationship Status
before You Become Intimate a reader reveals she
became intimate too soon and now questions where
her relationship stands. Tiya Cunningham-Sumter,
quickly gave her reassurance about her decision and
offered great words of advice.
No matter how funky it feels, you cheat yourself when
you don’t share what it is you want. If they don’t desire
the same thing, at least you know and you can move
forward. But if they do, you can begin to develop that
committed partnership.
7. Develop Healthy Relationships
Past failed relationships may have long-term negative
effects on individuals if they lack healthy coping skills.
Dr. Buckingham says, a damaged heart and loss of
trust is difficult to repair in What 5 Steps Can a Single
Woman Take to Develop Healthy Relationships?
Despite the personal challenges we might face, in
regards to developing relationships, we must not forget
that anything worth having, is worth working for.

This is what happened to a South Carolina man after he
was caught red-handed allegedly raping his nephew’s
girlfriend in a bedroom at a home in Conway, South Carolina
on Thursday January 1st.
The nephew, whose identity is being kept from the media,
reportedly found 52-year-old William Mattson (pictured
above) on top of his girlfriend and he responded by beating
the heck out of him. You can see the result of the brutal
beat down in the suspect’s mugshot.
The man then pushed his uncle out of the house and called
police. Mattson was arrested but the nephew was not
charged over the incident. The police said he was “acting in
defense for the victim.”
The uncle is now facing charges related to the alleged
sexual assault.

A Very popular Spiritual Director of Adoration Ministry, Enugu,
Rev Fr. Ejike Mbaka is currently under serious fire. Let me
explain what's going on. In early November, First Lady
Patience Jonathan was in Enugu to attend the 2014
Adoration Thanksgiving And Bazaar event where Fr. Mbaka
prayed for her, prayed for President Jonathan and said
'GEJ has done well, despite distraction and that he must
come back in 2015. You can find the video here . Fast
forward to January 1st and he's singing a different tune.
He's now saying 'GEJ must go!" Screaming 'we want
change'.
"When the Goodluck met the Yar'adua, the Yar'adua
had badluck and died. Before we knew it, when the
Goodluck met our oil, our oil had bad luck and poured
away. Before we knew it, Goodluck met our naira, our
naira had a bad luck. Where are we going in this
country, shall we continue to experience the bad
luck?" He said on Jan. 1st
You can watch the video - here . So what changed between
Nov. 9th 2014 and January 1st?

Here we are at the
beginning of another new year. It’s a time of great
possibilities, endless resolutions and expensive gym
memberships. You’re probably thinking about your
resolutions and how you’ll make 2015 different and
better. But, rather than making the same resolutions we
have made for the past decade and forgetting them by
January 15, let’s make this the year we create real
change. If you’re ready to create the brave life you truly
want and deserve, here are few simple steps.

1. Believe. It’s not just enough to say you want to quit
smoking, lose weight, improve your relationship or start
a business. You have to actually believe that you can
and will, and that you are truly deserving of a healthier,
happier life. If you haven’t been able to accomplish
these goals in the past, you probably have some
negative beliefs that are holding you back.
We all have these negative beliefs lurking. Sometimes
they have been passed on to us neglectful or stressed
parents or former abusive partners. Sometimes they
are created by our own fear and insecurities. However
they got there, it’s important to realize that these
negative thoughts are not real, and we can choose new,
more positive beliefs. Decide today what you truly want
and then believe that you can and will achieve it.
Believe that you are worthy of it. Believe that you
deserve it — because you do.

2. Release. This year, make a commitment to let go of
anything that no longer serves you. This includes letting
go of the negative thoughts and beliefs you discovered.
It means letting go of guilt — a completely useless
emotion that women are, unfortunately, experts at
cultivating.
It’s also time to let go of everyone else’s burdens. If
your mother is judging you, your partner cheated on
you, your friend is gossiping about you — those are not
your burdens to carry. Let them go!
Yes, you do have to decide how to respond. But, you do
not have to carry around the shame or burden of
someone else’s bad decisions or bad attitude. You have
the right — and an obligation — to make choices for
your own life. But, you can’t do that if you are too
weighed down by everyone else’s stuff. So, really, let it
go.

3. Awaken. So many of us are living on autopilot. We
get the kids to school, go to work, come home, make
dinner, watch mindless TV, knock out in complete
exhaustion… rinse and repeat. We rarely take the time
to truly be aware of what’s happening in our lives. So,
my friends, it’s time to wake up.
Take an honest look at what is happening in your life
right now — not what you hope might happen or what
happened two years ago, and not what you post on
your Facebook wall. Is your relationship really healthy
and happy? Is your career truly fulfilling? How do you
really feel about your life?
Start to become aware of your life and your emotions,
without judgment. If scary or painful feelings come up,
feel them and let them pass. Resist the urge to numb
them with coffee, wine, your news feed or stale candy
canes. It’s time to stop numbing and start truly living.

4. Visualize. Now that you are aware of what is right
now, you can decide how you want things to be. Decide
what you truly want for your life — not what anyone
else expects from you, and not what you want for those
around you. Take some time to really decide what you
want for you. This sounds simple, but can be tough,
especially for women. But, we’ll never create the life we
truly want until we know what that life will look like.
Take some time to write about your vision or create a
vision board full of inspiring images. Do this with your
new set of positive beliefs, with your new awareness
and with a focus on what’s best for you. Then as 2015
takes you through twists and turns (as it inevitably will),
always remember your vision. Look at it every morning,
and stay focused on the big picture. Stay focused on
your dream — and remember that you deserve it.

5. Empathize. I truly believe that empathy is our secret
weapon. In fact, if there is one gift that I wish every
parent would instill in their children, this would be it.
Empathy is the ability to feel with someone. It’s not the
same as sympathy, which means feeling sorry for
someone. Empathy, instead, allows for true, vulnerable
connection.
As we’ve discovered, we all carry around some not-so-
good beliefs about ourselves. We all carry heavy
burdens — many that don’t even belong to us! And we
all have ways that we numb. And guess what? So does
everyone else!
So, the coworker who is always gossiping — yep, she’s
numbing. Your friend who is always negative — she
probably has some cruddy beliefs about herself. We all
have monsters. Some monsters are just dressed up or
wearing better disguises than others. But, a monster is
a monster, my friend. So, we have no business judging
anyone else’s monsters, or anyone else’s choices.
Empathy means letting go of judgment and accepting
everyone for who they truly are.
Here’s the truth: Anytime someone judges you, that’s
their stuff. The great news is, that’s not your burden to
carry! Of course, the opposite is also true. Anytime you
judge someone else, that’s your stuff. That’s a clue to
you that you have some baggage full of negative beliefs
that you haven’t unpacked yet.
For example, when I was waitressing to pay my way
through college and living mostly on ramen noodles and
hot dogs (which could be why I’m a vegetarian today), I
used to have a lot of judgments about very wealthy
people. But eventually, I realized that these judgments
were caused by my own insecurities and worries about
money. It was my stuff.
So, when you see a mother with her child and think (or
say), I can’t believe she lets her child dress like that!
Maybe what’s really being triggered is your own
worries. Maybe you’re really thinking, I always feel
inadequate as a mother. I don’t know if I’m good
enough. But, at least my kids aren’t dressed like hers,
so I must be at least doing better than her, right?
Recognize when it’s your stuff. Be aware of it. And then
let it go. When you set down the guilt, shame and
insecurity, you will have no reason to judge anyone.
That doesn’t mean you have to go out and buy your
kids green mud boots and tutus — you don’t have to
replicate, or even like, what anyone else is doing. Just
don’t judge it. Think, that’s not for me, but great for
her!
Imagine how much free time and energy you will have
when you let go of negative beliefs, other people’s
burdens, mindless numbing, and judgment! You’ll
finally be able to focus on creating the life you truly
want and deserve, while encouraging others to do the
same. Because really, that’s what being brave is all
about.

Cattle Rearer vs Phd Holder....Asari is telling us to choose rightly. Please choose one

According to a report by PM News, a Court of Appeal sitting
in Lagos has quashed the 22-count charge brought against
the former Managing Director of Intercontinental Bank Plc,
Dr. Erastus Akingbola by the Economic and Financial
Crimes Commission (EFCC). The EFCC had alleged that
Akingbola stole N47.5 billion belonging to the bank. The
report below...
Ruling on Akingbola’s application on jurisdiction, the
court presided over by Justice Amina Augie held that
the High Court of Lagos State presided over by Justice
Lateef Lawal-Akapo lacked jurisdiction to entertain the
suit filed against him by the commission
Justice Augie said it amounted to miscarriage of justice for
the lower court to have dismissed Akingbola’s application
challenging its jurisdiction on the matter.
“The appeal is meritorious and allowed,” she declared.
“I am convinced that the lower court refused to align itself
with the decision of this court in Nwosu’s case,” she further
held.
Akingbola and his co-defendant, Bayo Dada, had filed two
separate applications challenging the jurisdiction of the
court to hear the 22-count charge filed against them by the
EFCC.
But, the lower court, in its ruling on 2 May, 2014 dismissed
their applications.
Justice Lawal-Akapo had then held that the charges
preferred against the defendants were within its
competence and jurisdiction to determine.
Dissatisfied with the ruling of the high court, Akingbola and
Dada approached the Appeal Court, praying that the trial
court’s decision be set aside.
Delievering the judgement, Justice Augie declared that the
lower court fell into serious error by not abiding by the
decision on Nwosu’s case adding, “it is most unfair and is
an injustice”.
According to her, the lower court has no option than to
follow the decision of the higher court on Nwosu’s case.
“The point must be made that the decision of this court in
Nwosu’s case was based on proof of evidence.”
The judge noted that all the charges against the defendants
arose out of capital market transactions.
“Only federal high court is conferred with the exclusive
jurisdiction to try cases of capital market transaction,” she
stressed.
The appellate court held that the lower court owes it a duty
to compare and contrast the documents cited by parties.
“It is its duty to examine materials brought before him. It is
the role of the judge to do justice in adjudicating all the
cases brought before him.
“One sided justice would amount to injustice and favouring
one side.
“The proof of evidence was there but the trial judge at the
lower court accused the defendants of not furnishing him
with the documents.
“He has failed in his duty.”
Justice Augie further held that the appeal filed by the
defendants has nothing to do with evidence, noting that the
lower court failed to go through argument canvassed
before it assumed jurisdiction on the matter.
She emphasised that the issue of jurisdiction should not
have been toyed with by the lower court.
“I agree with the appellant that the lower court ought to
have gone through the proof of evidence.
“There is no way a charge of stealing can stand without
going through the proof of evidence,” she declared.

2015 Prophecies of Apostle Dr.Ogochukwu Tochukwu
AmaukwuI term 2015 as a year of Total Victory and
Glory. The way you pray now in 2015 will determine
how glorious 2016 will be.
NIGERIA:
1. We must pray that there will be election in 2015. I
foresee problems coming before the election that may
stop the election. What God revealed to me is there will
be no election in 2015 if we do not pray to avert it.
2. I see serious violence errupting,we must pray now
against the return of military to power. I see the military
taking power by force amidst violence.

resources effectively hereby removing unecessary
burdens on the Federal.

98. Efforts should be made in South Africa to stop
kidnapping and robbery especially at the airports.

Berlin - Former Bayern Munich boss Uli Hoeness was on
Friday granted day-release for the remainder of his prison
term for tax fraud, justice officials said.
The decision, announced by the regional justice ministry in
the southern state of Bavaria, comes seven months after
Hoeness, who turns 63 on Monday, began a three-and-a-
half year prison term.
Hoeness, who was sentenced for having cheated the state
out of 28.5 million euros ($34.3 million), had already been
released to spend Christmas and then New Year with his
wife and family out of prison.

Bild daily published Friday a front-page photo of Hoeness
on a snowy walk with his wife, Susi, under the headline
"Hoeness is practising freedom".
It said he was expected to soon begin work with the youth
division of FC Bayern.
His new day-release regime will now permit him to pursue
a regular job before returning to prison at 6:00 pm.
Hoeness, who was replaced as Bayern Munich president
by Karl Hopfner, spent four decades at the Bundesliga
champions, initially as a player, and also has a successful
sausage business.
During his four-day trial in March last year, he admitted to
hiding his wealth in secret Swiss bank accounts while
obsessively "gambling" on stock and currency markets for
years before seeking to come clean in return for immunity
from prosecution.
But his January 2013 attempt to turn himself in to
authorities was deemed too little too late.

Liverpool - Steven Gerrard is set to make the shock
announcement that he will leave Liverpool at the end of
the season, ending a rollercoaster 25-year association
with the English giants.
Reds captain Gerrard's Anfield future has been the subject
of speculation for several months and he is believed to
have decided to continue his career overseas when his
contract expires in the close season.
The 34-year-old midfielder, who scored two penalties in
Thursday's 2-2 draw against Leicester at Anfield, has
already been linked with a move to MLS franchise LA
Galaxy and a Daily Express report says he is poised to go
public on his plans later Friday to avoid speculation over
his future becoming a distraction during the rest of the
season.
Clubs from the Middle East will also express interest in
Gerrard according to the report, with the former England
skipper free to speak to foreign sides since the first
minute of the new year.
Former Liverpool teammate Jamie Carragher described
Gerrard's decision as a "sad day".
"Sad day for Lfc & English football with the Gerrard news,
I think it's the right decision all things considered," tweeted
Carragher, who himself made 737 appearances for
Liverpool.
He added: "Leaving or retiring is a great confidence
booster, this morning my timeline was full of "whys
Gerrard starting" now it's "Gerrard best ever".
Gerrard's announcement that he plans to leave his
boyhood team, the only club he has played for in his
professional career, will come as a huge blow to many
Liverpool supporters who anticipated he would extend his
contract by at least another year.
Liverpool offered Gerrard a new deal in November, but it is
said he has decided the time is right to move on at the end
of the campaign.
Gerrard joined Liverpool as an eight-year-old and has
made 695 first-team appearances, scoring 180 goals.
His greatest moment came when he scored in the
Champions League final in 2005 and inspired Liverpool to
come from 3-0 down at half-time against AC Milan and
win the trophy on penalties.
But his hopes of winning the Premier League are likely to
remain unfulfilled after Liverpool came up agonisingly
short last season and lost out to Manchester City.
Gerrard returned to the starting line up for Thursday's
draw with Leicester after being rested for Monday's win
over Swansea.
But, with his performances below his previous high
standards for much of this season, the prospect of being a
substitute in more matches next season as manager
Brendan Rodgers manages his fitness has helped shape
his decision to quit Anfield.
'What a player'
The Express report said Gerrard, who famously turned
down two moves to Chelsea, will not play for another club
in England out of respect for Liverpool.
Gerrard made his debut in 1998, coming on as a substitute
in a game against Blackburn Rovers.
His club trophy haul includes the Champions League,
UEFA Cup, two FA Cups, three League Cups, one
Community Shield and two UEFA Super Cups.
Gerrard was capped 114 times by England, having made
his international debut in 2000, but he retired from
international football after last year's World Cup where
England exited in the first round.
Former England star Gary Lineker tweeted that the Anfield
giants owed Gerrard a huge debt for his loyalty and his
performances.
"So that's it then, Gerrard is going. What a player he has
been for Liverpool. Dragged teams to levels they'd never
have reached without him," said Lineker.
Gerrard's impending announcement came after Rodgers
rued the defensive mistakes which he said were
hampering his side's attempts to build momentum in the
Premier League following the draw with Leicester.
The Reds had a 2-0 lead at half-time thanks to two
penalties from Gerrard.
"They were two great penalties by Stevie, who showed
great composure," said Rodgers.
However, goals from David Nugent and Jeffrey Schlupp
ensured the Foxes collected a share of the points as they
hit back in the second half.
It left Liverpool seven points adrift of fourth place and
Rodgers lamenting the need for his side to tighten up at
the back.
"We are disappointed at being 2-0 up and conceding the
goals that we did, poor goals and giving away the ball so
cheaply," Rodgers said.
"We have seven out of nine points, we should have more,
at 2-0 even playing as poorly as we did. We should have
closed that out and it cost us.
"I think we have to do better on the edge of the box. The
shots come in too easy, and we have to be stronger and
aggressive.
"We talked about it. We had a plan in place in terms of
after the opponent scores or after we score, the five
minute spell, the idea of what to do and how to work that
but we didn't do it."

Some Cameroonian travelers were killed after the bus they
were traveling in was ambushed and attacked by members
of Boko Haram yesterday January 1st. Cameroonian
investigative journalist Chief Bisong shared the information
on twitter.
Meanwhile Cameroonian authorities say they will be
recruiting 20,000 military officers as part of measures to
prevent further attacks by members of the sect even as
information emerged that Boko Haram members are
working to enlist young Cameroonians into their group.
A lawmaker in Cameroon's parliament, Senator Haman
Paul told Voice Of America
"There was something that we witnessed in Maroua
(in northern Cameroon). People told us that they found
people in town that were not actually people they were
used to. When we found that one part of the country is
in a very delicate situation, it is better to manage
prevention instead of consequences,”

Barcelona - Barcelona midfielder Andres Iniesta is
confident that despite their transfer ban the team has the
depth to win trophies as they start the new year with a trip
to face Real Sociedad on Sunday hoping to keep the
pressure on La Liga leaders Real Madrid.
The Catalan club will be unable to reinforce their squad in
the following two transfer windows as their appeal against
a FIFA sanction over the transfer of foreign Under-18
players was rejected by the Court of Arbitration for Sport
(CAS), this week.
The decision is likely to cause most concern for Barca's
defence where they have continued to look weak despite
making several signings ahead of the season.
In particular, there is a lack of cover at right back for Dani
Alves who himself has received plenty of criticism for
below par displays.

Still, Barca are only a point off an imperious Real who
have played a game less and take on Valencia this Sunday
looking for their 23rd straight win in official matches.
"It is not even crossing our minds the idea of not winning
anything this season," Iniesta told reporters.
"The squad that we have has sufficient quality to win
trophies and the important thing is to believe in ourselves
and that we can keep improving so as to reach our
maximum.
"I don't know the full legal details (of the CAS verdict) but
having come through the La Masia (Barcelona youth
system) myself, I think that the opportunity that it gives to
youngsters not only on a footballing level but also
personal, is very high.
"We cannot sign now and that is obviously a handicap but
we need to concentrate on this season with the players we
have and look to win."
Iniesta believes that the team is on the right course while
he also has not ruled out the title chances of third-placed
Atletico Madrid, who face Levante on Saturday.
"They (Real) won a lot of trophies last year and they will be
in the fight. All teams go through ups and downs and
while Real are doing well now we are making good
progress," he said.
"Atletico though are the reigning league champions and it
is our job to take the trophy from them. They have done
well for several seasons and we know that they will be
challenging."

Liverpool have confirmed that Steven Gerrard will leave
the club at the end of the current season, bringing an
end to his 17-year partnership with the Anfield giants.
The 34-year-old veteran midfielder announced on the
club’s official website on Friday, adding that it has
“been the toughest decision of my life.”
“From now until the last kick of the last game of the
season, I’ll be as fully committed to the team as I have
been,” Gerrard told the club’s official website. “It is my
sincere hope and wish that one day I can return to
serve Liverpool again, in whatever capacity best helps
the club.

“I’m going to carry on playing and although I can’t
confirm at this stage where that will be, I can say it will
be somewhere that means I won’t be playing for a
competing club and will not therefore be lining up
against Liverpool – that is something I could never
contemplate.”
Gerrard said he was making the announcement now “so
that the manager and the team are not distracted by
stories or speculation about my future,” which has been
widely debated for several months.
The ex-England skipper said his decision was
“completely based on my wish to experience something
different in my career and life and I also want to make
sure that I have no regrets when my playing career is
eventually over”.
He thanked coach Brendan Rodgers, owners John
Henry and Tom Werner, his team-mates and the staff.
To the fans Gerrard concluded: “My final message is
for the people who make Liverpool Football Club the
greatest in the world – the supporters. It has been a
privilege to represent you, as a player and as captain. I
have cherished every second of it and it is my sincere
wish to finish this season and my Liverpool career on a
high.”
Gerrard, a one-club footballer, made his senior debut in
November 1998 and has amassed a total of 695
appearances so far in all competitions for the
Merseyside outfit. He has won the Uefa Champions
League, the Uefa Cup (now Europa League) and Uefa
Super Cup, including three League Cup successes and
two FA Cup winners’ medal.
He is the second highest-scoring midfielder in the
history of the Premier League with 116 goals, including
a brace in the 2-2 draw with Leicester on New Year’s
Day.
Rodgers said: “It is almost an impossible task to find
the words to appropriately sum up Steven Gerrard and
his importance to Liverpool.
“This is an era where the word ‘legend’ is vastly
overused, but in his case it actually doesn’t do him
justice. From a personal point of view I will always
have gratitude for the support he gave me, when I
arrived here as manager.”

Laptops, also known as notebooks, are versatile, portable,
come in a range of sizes and boast different levels of
features. So, how do you find the laptop that's right for
your needs? Just follow our buying guide on notebook
computers.

CONSIDER THE SIZE OF YOUR LAPTOP
How often are you likely to be carrying your laptop? Are
you after a notebook to play games and run graphics-
intensive programs like photo editing software? Generally
speaking, laptops with more features are less portable.
Lightweight and ultra-portable notebooks are a great
option for people like students who need to carry
them everywhere, as they range from under 2kg up to
4kg
Midsize and desktop-replacement laptops offer more
features and are better suited to gaming and graphics-
intensive programs like video and photo editing. They
range from around 3kg to 5kg

BRAIN SPEED – THE FASTER, THE BETTER
Processors are often referred to as the "brains" of a
laptop because they determine how fast your computer
functions. The speed of the processor is measured in GHz
(gigahertz). It's always safest to go with the fastest you
can afford.

THE GRUNT
RAM (Random Access Memory) helps your processor
perform tasks by acting as a temporary storage point.
In short, the more RAM you have, the more programs
you can keep open at once, and the faster your
computer will go
Our laptops range between 2GB and 16GB of RAM
A graphics (or video) card acts as a separate
processor for rendering the images on the screen
Graphics cards draw on their own RAM, so the
computer's performance is not impeded
This is important for graphics-intensive programs,
such as games and movies.

STORE IT IN THE HARD DRIVE
The hard drive is where your computer stores your files.
Storage capacity is measured in gigabytes (GB)
The more GB, the more files you can fit. If you want to
store large files like high-quality photos, movies or
music you should aim for a range between 500GB and
3TB
A laptop used solely for Internet, email and minimal
image storage should get away with 250GB or less.

HOW LONG DOES THE BATTERY LAST?
Typical laptop battery life is between three to five hours.
If you're travelling and away from a power source for
extended periods of time, then consider laptop computers
with a battery life of over five hours.

CONNECTING YOUR LAPTOP TO OTHER DEVICES
Consider the devices that you want to connect your laptop
to. Multiple USB ports are necessities for iPods, digital
cameras and external hard drives; also look for FireWire
ports.
For connecting to monitors and projectors, look for a
VGA connection at minimum. Aim for a DVI, HDMI or
DisplayPort as well
Integrated wireless networking (Wi-Fi) will allow you
to connect to a range of different networks without
needing any wires or cords.

CONSIDER THESE "USABILITY" FACTORS
Laptops usually come with a pointing stick or a touch
pad instead of a mouse. Make sure that you're
comfortable using them
Also check that the layout and size of the keyboard is
easy to use, and that the screen size suits your needs
If you're planning on working outside, check that there
is a matte screen option to reduce glare
If you are switching from PC to Apple, or vice versa, it's
important to note that Apple products have different
shortcuts and a different look and feel to using them.
However, making the switch either way is quite easy.

MATCH YOUR LIFESTYLE
Home and Business : Surf the net, work on multiple
documents, watch movies, and manage your family
photos and music.
Size: Look for a portable laptop under 4kg
Memory: Aim for the most memory you can, upwards
of 250GB
Connectivity: Multiple USB ports, Wi-Fi, Firewire and a
DVI or HDMI
Students and Travellers: Store your photos, music and
videos, surf the Net and work on graphics-intensive
programs, like photo editing.
Size: Choose an ultra-portable notebook under 2kg
Grunt: Look for a processor of at least 2GHz and 2GB
RAM
Screen: Look for a matte screen to reduce glare when
outdoors
Gamers: You'll need a fast, powerful machine to play your
favourite games wherever you are in the world.
Size: Choose a larger screen, like a 15.6-inch one
Graphics: Add a separate graphics card with at least
1GB RAM
Connectivity: HDMI, multiple USB, eSATA, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth

SIMPLE LAPTOP CHOICES

Size: Smaller laptops are easier to carry around. Do you
need a big screen?
Battery life : How long will you and your notebook be away
from a power source?
Storage: Notebooks with bigger hard drives can store
more files, including photos and video.

OTHERS:
Connect it: What devices (cameras etc) do you want to
connect? How many ports will you need to connect them
all at once?
Graphics cards: A must-do upgrade for gamers and those
editing photos.

This story examines former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s
latest dance steps, a break-dance of twists and turns with
one suspected objective: the actualisation of a self-serving
agenda that is at variance with the projection of a united
Nigeria. Yet, a more perceptive incumbent President would
have pulled all the stops to successfully rein-in Obasanjo.
Instead, aides and confidants, who are far, very far, from
being adroit at statecraft, continue to mislead President
Goodluck Jonathan, as part of a turf battle that is raging
inside Aso Rock Presidential Villa. Interestingly, the
perceived shoddiness of the Presidency, a Presidency
foisted on Nigerians by Obasanjo and which he ought to be
working to adequately address, is being allowed to flounder
because of self-conceited considerations by political leaders
who ought to work at nation-building. Said to be desperately
working for a stalemate immediately after February’s
presidential election, some political leaders in Nigeria, as
this report will show, are going for broke.
YOU ARE ALL MARKED
Sometime last year, Matthew Okikiolakan Aremu Olusegun
Obasanjo, at a private meeting with two former aides and a
former minister (while they were still hibernating in the All
Progressive Congress, APC) implored them to ensure that
Goodluck Ebele Jonathan did not return as President in
2015. At a time when the cluelessness of Nigeria’s
presidency was manifestly waxing more embarrassing by
the day, especially with a First Lady that had become gung
ho, Obasanjo’s move appeared altruistic. Nigeria needed to
be saved from the Jonathans – or so it seemed.
It was at that meeting that Obasanjo revealed that should Jonathan return
next year as President and Commander-in-Chief, those at
that meeting would have to go on exile because, according
to a source who was in attendance, the former Nigerian
leader said, ‘Jonathan would go after all of you here,
including me; so you all would have to go on exile. But I,
Obasanjo, would be here. Therefore, he must be stopped’ by
whatever means!
During a closed door meeting with the leadership of the APC
sometime late last year, Obasanjo admonished it to do
whatever it would take to ensure that Jonathan did not
return.
Again, Obasanjo, just this month, repeated the same threat
of stopping the President in a BBC Hausa Service radio
interview. According to him, Jonathan must be stopped.
I WILL JAIL YOU
Last month, one of the key pillars in the merger that gave
birth to the APC re-defected to the Peoples Democratic
Party, PDP. The reason for his movement back to PDP
could not be ascertained by Sunday Vanguard at press time.
However, Obasanjo is, according to sources, not taking
matters lying low. He did not like the idea of his protégé
returning to the PDP.
Just a fortnight ago, after the re-defection of the said
confidant from the North-east and who is considered very
close to Obasanjo, the latter, reportedly, sent two former
state governors of South west extraction to the said
confidant to convince him on why he should return to the
APC.
According to a very dependable source, for two hours, the
former governors tried in vain to convince the said
confidant.
Undaunted, a telephone call was placed to Obasanjo in
Maputo.
It was understood that for almost an hour, the former
President also, in vain, tried to convince his erstwhile
protégé that he should return to the APC.
Strangely, Obasanjo ended the not-so-pleasant conversation
on the note that should the said confidant refuse to return to
APC, he, Obasanjo, would jail him.
But the question is where will the former President get the
power to jail somebody?
Meanwhile, Obasanjo, whose statements and actions should
not be taken lightly, is believed to have his agenda close to
his chest.

OBASANJO’S MOVES
An Ebora is likened to a spirit – a strange one – in Yoruba
folklore.
For those who know Obasanjo too well, he doesn’t shoot in
the dark; and if and when he does, he already knows the
spot where his target is. His comments and statements are
almost always weighted not necessarily on sincerity but on
forbearance hinged on a self-conceited agenda.
According to Obasanjo, in his much fractured and derided
book, My Watch, which Nobel laureate, Wole Soyinka, has
condemned as a pack of lies, the former President wrote of
Jonathan: ”Jonathan is lacking in broad vision, knowledge,
confidence, understanding, concentration, capacity, sense
of security, courage, moral and ethical principles, character
and passion to move the nation forward on a fast
trajectory.”
That was not all. He went on: “Under Jonathan, we seem to
have gone from frying pan to fire. If in the past corruption
was in the corridors of power, it would seem now to be in
the sitting room, dining room and bedroom of power.”
Obasanjo has not said anything new and this would not be
the first time he would be taking on a sitting leader.
However, what makes this instance very curious is that it is
this self-same Obasanjo who, against an agreement on
power rotation which he signed, sealed and delivered on
December 22, 2002, in Aso Rock Presidential Villa, urged
Jonathan to run for election in 2011.
Diplomatic sources and political leaders across geo-political
zones in the country disclosed to Sunday Vanguard that
Obasanjo’s agenda is not about saving Nigeria from
Jonathan.
In fact, a very authoritative source, who remains very close
to Obasanjo but who does not share his beliefs, confided in
Sunday Vanguard: “The APC does not understand the game
Obasanjo is playing. Obasanjo has committed himself to
some northern political leaders and traditional institutions
that he would return power to the North in 2015.  It is
obvious that Obasanjo is no longer interested in the success
of the PDP. But the APC leaders should ask him why he has
not openly declared as a member of their party?”
The counterpoise, however, as put forward by Sunday
Vanguard, is: How does Obasanjo’s membership of a
political party obviate the genuineness of his observations
about President Jonathan?
In what was to shock Sunday Vanguard as would shock
Nigerians, the source made it clear that Obasanjo’s sudden
realization that Jonathan must be stopped is not about
Nigeria but about Obasanjo.

AN AGENDA WITHIN AN AGENDA
According to another source, the only thing that can stop the
PDP from running away with victory next year would be an
opposition that can match the ruling party.  APC, which was
the merger of the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, with the
Congress for Progressive Change, CPC, was meant to
address that challenge.
Curiously, the regime of derision that had crisscrossed and
dominated the relationship between Obasanjo; APC National
Leader, Bola Tinubu; and the APC presidential candidate,
Muhammadu Buhari, did not matter any longer.
However, unknown to the APC leadership, sources say
Obasanjo’s agenda is “purely to force a stalemate at the
polls such that Nigerians will have only one option which is
a third way – neither Jonathan nor Buhari,” an interim
arrangement or a government of national unity.
The first plank of Obasanjo’s grand design is, according to
sources, to overwhelm leaders of the opposition with
uncommon support for their cause.  That way, he would be
welcomed and seen as part of their party. That has already
been achieved – but Obasanjo has never claimed to be a
member of APC.
The second plank, Sunday Vanguard was told, is that
Obasanjo himself would overheat the polity with incendiary
comments. He has already started doing that.
Unfortunately, however, the book he wrote, My Watch, is
already suffering credibility crisis because in that book, only
Obasanjo comes out clean.  But, more significantly, the
book is meant to sensitize the international community,
rightly or wrongly, to the fact that the Jonathan Presidency
is a never-do-well contraption headed by a President who is,
at best, confused and, at worst, incompetent.
As part of this plan, sufficient public angst would have a
fertile ground on which to germinate and set the stage of
massive outpouring of resentment.  Another component of
this leg is the drive to engineer discontent in the polity
through verifiable and unverifiable claims and counter
claims that would further drive the wedge between both
leading political parties.
That way, a diplomatic source concluded, “any outcome of
the 2015 presidential election would not be acceptable to the
losing party”.
The source went on: “But you know what that means for
Nigeria once parties refuse to accept the result of an
election. What Obasanjo has succeeded in doing is to help
shore up the opposition which is good for democracy; but it
is also good for his own agenda which is a return to power.”
The downside, however, is that Obasanjo’s own agenda
goes beyond having a strong opposition.
Another source disclosed: “The whole idea of supporting the
APC is to force a stalemate at the polls. Obasanjo does not
do anything without his own interest.”
To buttress the point of the former Nigerian leader’s interest,
Sunday Vanguard has been told of the existence of the
report of a probe into the activities of General Buhari as
Petroleum Trust Fund, PTF, Chairman.
The interesting development is that between Obasanjo and
the PDP leadership, the details of that report would become
public knowledge.  So, why would Obasanjo be interested in
leaking the report?  It is for the same reason as “damaging
Buhari the way he has written about Jonathan”, an
Obasanjo aide who has since fallen out with the former
President disclosed.
The Obasanjo former aide added: “Since the first election in
2015 is the presidential election, any unpalatable fallout
may make it difficult for subsequent elections to hold.  In
the event that that happens, Nigerians should begin to brace
for an interim arrangement which is what Obasanjo is
working towards. To him, it is either Jonathan is removed or
another arrangement is put in place”.
When Obasanjo threatens that he would jail an individual,
the question is, how? – he is no longer President. But the
scenario, said to be anticipated is that the need to legislate
for an interim government would not need too much push
as Nigeria’s National Assembly, by February ending, would
house a preponderant of legislators whose stake would
amount for nothing because they were not re-nominated by
their parties for another term.
The dangerous mix of having a stalemate and an
assemblage of disgruntled lawmakers would make for a
tantalizing cocktail for disaster in a country of clashing
socio-political, economic and religious interests.
The international community would wade in and would
rather support an interim arrangement than sees a unstable
nation.

CONCERN OF LEADERS
As investigations for the scripting of this piece was on-
going, Bolaji Akinyemi, a professor, and former Foreign
Affairs Minister and who just served as Deputy Chairman,
National Conference, 2014, alerted Nigerians on Monday
that danger looms. He sent an open letter to both Jonathan
and Buhari, calling on both men to conduct their campaigns
with decorum as well as ensure that they abide by the
outcome of next year’s presidential election in order not to
set Nigeria on fire. He also called on leaders to intervene
and meet with both candidates.
Since Monday when the letter was published, as if driven by
a peculiar spirit, both camps have not ceased to tone down
their rhetoric of assault.  While the Buhari campaign claimed
to tacitly support mutiny, insisting that the military has a
right to protest, Jonathan’s camp has been busy pouring
invectives on the person of Buhari.  This is exactly the type
of scenario Obasanjo had allegedly envisaged.
Mercifully, a few of those leaders of thought that Akinyemi
suggested should meet with both candidates appear to be
on the same page with the former minister and erudite
scholar.
Sunday Vanguard learnt that a former Secretary General of
the Commonwealth, Chief Emeka Anyaoku, agrees totally
with the observations of Akinyemi.
In separate interviews with Col. Abubakar Umar, the
Caliphate and other prominent Nigerians, they all agreed that
Akinyemi had hit the nail on the head.

WHEN OBASANJO SPEAKS
From the Olympian height of nationalism, logging a record
in 1979 as the first African military leader to voluntarily hand
over power to civilians, Obasanjo has fumbled down the hill
with a deafening fall occasioned by his attempt at tenure
elongation in 2006.
Perhaps, a more thorough interrogation of the man,
Obasanjo, would have revealed a self-conceited individual
whose only claim to goodness is opportunistic.
Yet, consider the following:
In 1983, during the deadly days of the post-1983 election
violence, Obasanjo took a swipe at the then President Shehu
Usman Aliyu Shagari for running a clueless government.
Soon after, precisely on December 31, that year, the military
struck.
Again in the early second half of 1985, Obasanjo, while
delivering a lecture somewhere in the South West,
lampooned the General Muhammadu Buhari junta and,
barely two months later, Buhari was toppled.
When Obasanjo tried something similar in 1989 against the
Ibrahim Babangida administration, attempting to ride on the
back of the riots against the Structural Adjustment
Programme, SAP, of that government, younger military
officers out-shouted Obasanjo.  Whereas Obasanjo, who
holds the traditional title of Balogun of Owu, doubling as the
Ekerin Egba, had counseled that Babangida’s SAP must
have a human face and a milk of human kindness, Navy
Captain Okhai Mike Akhigbe charged back on behalf of that
government, describing Obasanjo as a frustrated chicken
farmer. That silenced Obasanjo for a while.
It was not until the troubling days of June 12, 1993
presidential election annulment, a time when it would have
been expected of Obasanjo to be on the side of decency,
common sense and logic, that the former President found
his voice in a most ludicrous and egregious manner. Rather
than keep quiet in the face of nothing meaningful and
helpful to say, Obasanjo declared that the winner of that
election, Bashorun MKO Abiola, was not the messiah
Nigerians were waiting for. That statement further
emboldened the military to stay the course and cause of
annulment.
In retrospect today, maximum dictator Sani Abacha, by a
twist of ironic tragic-comedy, hauled Obasanjo into prison
as a way of stopping his serial pranks – the coup tribunal
actually ordered Obasanjo kept out for life.  Interestingly,
had those administrations Obasanjo criticized found
accommodation for his influence, all would have been well
in his estimation!
For a traditional man, it takes a strange individual to do
what Obasanjo does with relish. After imposing Umar Musa
Yar’Adua on Nigeria, it was the same Obasanjo who railed
against the former when his illness became imminently
terminal.
And after campaigning for Jonathan to become President in
2011, and when the centre could no longer hold for both
men, Obasanjo switched on his atavistic and cantankerous
mode.
Make no mistake, it is only a manifestly shambling and
shambolic presidency like Jonathan’s that would be a
receptacle for all manner of dirt. And which is why an
Obasanjo, with the attendant ills of his administration, would
not see anything good about Jonathan, his protégé.

203 Nigerian soldiers have allegedly been dismissed by the
Nigerian military over allegations of disobeying a direct
order from their commanding officer to engage Boko
Haram members and demanding for support equipment.
The soldiers and their families are said to have been evicted
from the barracks after a court martial that sat on
December 24th night found them guilty of disobeying
superior authority.
Premium Times reports that one of the dismissed soldier
attached to the 7th division in Maiduguri Borno state, who
spoke on the condition of anonymity said that after the
sect members dislodged their unit in Damboa, Borno state
sometime last year, they (the soldiers) were reconvened in
Maiduguri in August to further engage in the fight against
boko haram and upon their arrival, they were they were
given two weeks pass and that at the expiration of their
pass, they were issued new uniforms, boots and handed 30
rounds of bullets each as against the 60 rounds meant to
be given to them. He said their commanding chief ordered
that they move in a tipper to continue the fight to dislodge
the sect members in Damboa but that some of the soldiers
argued that serious weapons would be needed in the fierce
battle they are expected to embark on as they have being
fighting with the sect members and known the type of
weapons they use.
“So we asked for support weapons. No support weapon
was provided. Our CO (Commanding Officer) said he would
discuss with the GOC (General Officer Commanding) of the
7 Division at the headquarters. When he came back, he said
we should stand down. We thought all was well,” our source
said.
He said the next day their new CO, Mohammed A, a
lieutenant colonel from 195 battalion, Agenebode, ordered
them to submit their weapons and uniforms or be charged
with mutiny.
“On the morning of 16 of August, after the GOC briefing, our
commander started calling our names and he said anyone
whose name is called should submit their uniform and
weapon. He added that anyone who failed to do that would
be charged for mutiny. We were surprised at what was
happening. He started from the most senior soldier among
us, a warrant officer who had served for almost 30 years.
They asked us to go back to the barrack. It is a war zone
and our weapons had been taken from us. Staying around
was of no use so we left Maiduguri back home.”
The next order from the army hierarchy was for the soldiers
to report to the 4th Brigade headquarters in Benin where
they were detained for three months.
“They kept us in the fenced field at the officers’ mess in 4th
battalion headquarters. When we first arrived at Benin they
took statements from us and took it to Maiduguri. The
original charge against us was for deserting but after our
statements were taken they changed the charge to
disobedient to particular order. They said we disobeyed the
CO’s order. They seized our phones, we couldn’t
communicate with our families for the 90 days we were
kept in detention,” our source said.
After they were released on December 24, they were
conveyed to their various units. The soldier said on getting
to their units, a court martial was set up at about 11.30
p.m. where they were tried and dismissed. He said the next
morning, they were evicted from the barrack with their
families.
“It was dismissal without benefits. After 17 years in
service. Even people that served for 30 years were
dismissed without benefits. We had no legal
representation.” the source said
The Nigerian military has not reacted to the report.
